September Pick 3: Building a Caring Classroom

Welcome to the September Edition of the Pick 3 Pinterest Party!  Thanks for stopping by!  If you are looking for some inspiration for your classroom, you have come to the right place!

September in Texas brings a sense of hope that the scorching hot weather might be coming to an end.  I am so looking forward to some cooler weather!  As school gets back into full swing, I am reminded how important it is to create a caring classroom at the beginning of the year.  Our babies come into our classrooms from a variety of backgrounds and situations….some more sad than I can imagine.  School maybe the safest, most comfortable place in their lives….so I need to take the time to make sure our classroom is a caring place full of acceptance and respect!  Here a couple of pins I plan to use in my class this month.

I love this display!  It is such a great way to create a sense of belonging in the classroom!

I love to recognize the greatness of the students in my class.  This “new to me” idea uses reading and writing to recognize students and reinforce positive behavior choices.  Sounds like the perfect combination to me!

Unfortunately, kids can be really mean to each other.  They don’t seem to understand how painful their words can be to a friend or classmate.  This pin show a great visual to show the power of the spoken word.

I love the self-portrait activity. You are so right that teachers need to make kids feel safe, valued and loved. Creating the sense of belonging during the first days helps to accomplish this. This activity can be be adapted for higher grades also. I've seen foreign language teachers do this. The kids made posters with their photographs and an "All About Me" paragraph written in the foreign language they are learning. Fun! Thanks for sharing and hosting the Pick 3 every month.

The display to introduce each student is such a wonderful idea. I like the way they put a photo next to a drawing. I've seen the WOW book before and have always loved the idea of having a book to collect special student or class events.
